Day 18: Using Our Phones for Good

July 27, 2018

As we race to the finish of our 21-Day Challenge, we'll turn to some positive aspects of Smartphone usage--including a look at some of my favorite apps. Today's App Recommendation is Reimagining the Examen!

Day 18 Challenge: Download apps that add goodness to your life.

While we are all seeking Freedom from our Smartphones, the reality is that they are not going away! One app that has been a great addition to my prayer life is Reimagining the Examen, based on Mark Thibodeaux, S.J.'s best-selling book Reimagining the Ignatian Examen from Loyola Press. Here's its description:

"Reimagining the Examen offers a unique prayer experience that's tailored to your needs and mood. Each Examen, based on St. Ignatius' 500-year-old prayer, guides you through a stimulating reflection on your day, helping you invite God into your nitty-gritty. Choose an Examen that matches your current state of being, or pray today's scheduled reflection."

Here's a screen shot from today's Examen which is aptly themed, "I'm Drained!"...

The app offers instruction on how to pray the Examen, as well as some pretty poignant questions to take your prayer to a deeper level! I still recommend maintaining those 2 Hours of Phone Free time around bedtime--meaning we should only be using this or any prayer app at least at hour before you go to bed or an hour after you get up. Those two phone free hours can be truly life changing!
