Journaling Questions for Reflection

"Where did this man get all this? What is the wisdom given to him? What mighty works are wrought by his hands! Is not this the carpenter?... And they took offense to him (Mark 6:3). How often do we doubt the truth because it is too difficult to hear? When has the truth offended me? How do I share the truth with others without fear of offense? When am I most easily offended? How often do I offend others? What can I do to better communicate the truth in love?

"I want you to give me at once the head of John the Baptist." And the king was exceedingly sorry; but because of his oaths and his guests he did not want to break his word to her (Mark 6:26). How worried am I about what others think of me? How often does it affect my decision-making? When am I most insecure? How often does insecurity lead me to sin? How would reflecting on the Father's love for me help me to better understand  my identity?

"Come away by yourselves to a lonely place, and rest a while (Mark 6:31)." When do I take time to pray? Mornings? Evenings? Throughout the day? Where do I go to pray? Is it a space filled with distraction? What is the environment like? How can I make my prayer time more "prayerful"? What would be my ideal prayer environment? What would be my ideal prayer time? How will I make more of an effort to make it to prayer tomorrow? next week? next month?

"You give them something to eat (Mark 6:37)." How can I give out of my abundance? What gifts or talents do I have to serve the kingdom? What is Jesus asking me to give from my poverty? Do I believe that Jesus can bless and multiply what little I have to offer?

Day 6 Challenge:

Sit with the following verse for 20 minutes today: "Take heart, it is I; have no fear (Mark 6:50)."
